Growth spurts in dancers

It is important to understand what physical and psychological changes you will experience that may impact your dance training. 🧠

Growth spurts (puberty) will differ between individuals and each dancer will experience slightly different changes and endure it for varying lengths of time. (We can’t control this)πŸ‘§πŸΌπŸ‘ΆπŸΌ

Here are the 3 main changes you may experience.πŸ‘‡πŸ»
‍
*️Your flexibility and strength may decrease as your bones can grow quicker than the muscles during puberty. Meaning that you could be more vulnerable to injury. -

*️Your balance, technical skill and control may weaken due to your limbs growing at different rates to the torso. -

*️You may lack confidence or self esteem as your feel as though you cannot perform to a level in which you were once able.

As dancers we have to accept that the body will eventually catch up. πŸ‘΅πŸΌ
‍
Embrace the growth spurt, ride the physical and psychological rollercoaster and do your best to keep up your strength and morale. 🎒
‍
It is important to remember that having a positive perspective on puberty will reinforce the need for patience. πŸ™πŸ»
